X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer Has Higher Energy Level, Is there Radiation
Jan 18 , 2022Many people ask whether the radiation of the X-ray fluorescence spectrometer affects the human body? See below for how X-rays cause radiation.
Electromagnetic radiation
Electromagnetic radiation is divided into ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation. Electromagnetic radiation includes electricity, radio waves, microwaves, terahertz radiation, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays, and gamma rays, which are arranged in order of increasing frequency.
Ionizing Radiation
Among them, ultraviolet, X-ray, and Y-rays are called high-energy rays due to their high energy levels, which can produce ionization of human cells, also known as ionizing radiation.

Lonizing radiation also propagates in waves.
X-rays and Y-rays have a high frequency and a short wavelength, and have stronger ionization ability than other types of radiation. It is called ionizing radiation. A type of radiation cocmes from unstable atoms, these radioactive atoms(referred to as radionuclides or radioisotopes) in order to become more stable. The nucleus releases secondary and high-energy photons( γ rays). The above process is called radioactive decay. For example, the natural nuclides radium, radon, uranium, thorium found is nature. In addition, the existence of human activities(such as atomic fission in nuclear reactors) and natural activities, they also release ionizing radiation. During the decay process, the main products of radiation are α, β and γ rays.
X rays and γ-rays
X-rays are high-energy photons produced by the interaction of charged particles and matter.
X-rays and γ-rays have many similar characteristics, but they have different origins. X-rays are caused by the outside of the atom, while γ-rays are caused by the inside of the atom. X-rays have lower energy than γ-rays, so their penetration is less than γ-rays. Thousands of X-ray machines are used daily in medicine and industry, X-rays are also used in cancer treatment to destroy cancerous cells. A few millimeters of lead can block X-rays, so as long as the X-ray fluorescence analyzer is , it will not be harmed to follow the safety procedures.
